As Fall is fast approaching, I always find it helpful to start a new season with a fresh space! For the kids, its also important to ensure they’re heading back to school with all the things they need, including clothing, school supplies, etc.
At the end of the summer, I take a few days to declutter and refresh their wardrobes. It does take a bit of time, but it truly makes a big difference in setting them up for the year!
Here’s my 5 STEP Process:
1. Take all of your clothing out of drawers, closets, etc! Everything needs to come out so you can fully see everything you’re working with.
2. Start with ONE category- not a drawer, but a simple category like socks. Its much easier to start with a smaller item and move on from there!
3. Make a list so you can easily check off what you have and see what you need to replace. I create a list on my phone like this: 👇🏻
4. If its your kids space, INVOLVE them- the younger they start, the better! Permanent habits begin to form before age 9, so get them started now! The more they do it, the easier it becomes.
5. Take everything you set aside and organize into 3 categories- keep, donate or resell. Then pack it up and get rid of it!
I promise you will be SO happy with the end result!
Here are the checklists I use:
Happy decluttering!
